Airbnb.org, the nonprofit founded by Airbnb, is providing free, temporary housing for people who have been displaced by the Los Angeles wildfires.

The organization has partnered with 211 LA to connect people with a free place to stay, supporting residents who have been displaced from their homes or forced to evacuate by the wildfires.

Stays are completely free for guests and are funded by Airbnb.org and the generosity of Airbnb hosts — many of whom offer their home for free or at a discount through Airbnb.org.

Currently, Airbnb.org and 211 LA are specifically focused on residents who have either lost their home or been forced to evacuate in the Altadena, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Santa Monica and Sylmar areas.

Airbnb.org is a nonprofit founded by Airbnb that provides free emergency housing in times of crisis. Airbnb.org has provided more than 1.6 million nights of emergency stays for more than 250,000 people.

Airbnb.org partners with nonprofits and governments to identify those impacted by disasters, and is able to offer free stays because of funding from Airbnb, private donations, and Airbnb hosts who offer their homes for free or at a discount.

211 LA is a nonprofit organization and the designated 2-1-1 information and referral service for Los Angeles County, connecting residents with essential health and human services. For more than 40 years, 211 LA has served as a trusted community resource, providing 24/7 multilingual support to individuals and families in need.

A series of wildfires beginning on January 7, 2025 have affected the Los Angeles metropolitan area and surrounding regions. There are three wildfires still burning in the LA area, with the largest – the Palisades fire – just 13% contained.

The number of people killed has risen to 24, with firefighters from Mexico and Canada having been drafted to help tackle the fires.
