A hotel in Austin is paying its employees to volunteer in the local community while it is closed due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
Workers at East Austin’s Heywood Hotel, owned by Kathy Setzer, are getting paid their normal wages to help out for the Sleep Well Do Good initiative, spending more than 250 hours on community service collectively.
The team have partnered with many no-for-profit organizations, including meal deleiveries, to help feed thousands of health care workers.
Speaking to local press, Setzer says: “Really our team is the heart of the Heywood and also our family. In a time of crisis, you want to protect your family. We have some business savings and there’s no better way for us to spend that.”
The team also has a goal of writing 3,000 note cards for Meals on Wheels recipients to add that personal touch.
