Langham Hospitality Group has delayed the opening of The Langham Seattle until 2030.
The project was first announced in 2022 and was originally due to open next year. The development will comprise a 187-room hotel and a collection of branded private residences.
Designed by Kengo Kuma, The Langham Seattle will be a high-rise, horizontal structure featuring a textured facade inspired by the silhouette of Pacific Northwest basalt sea stack formations.
The building will incorporate natural materials such as wood, glass, and stone, as well as featuring expansive windows and open spaces which will emphasise natural light and views of the surrounding Elliott Bay.
Rooms and suites will feature elegant interiors designed by Rottet Studio, whose past works include curating the art collection at The Langham, Chicago.
The hotel will also be home to a breakfast room complete with a landscaped outdoor terrace, and destination cocktail bar at lobby level, benefiting from an alfresco patio.
The hotel’s wellness centre will feature Chuan Spa, The Langham’s proprietary spa concept, which embraces the philosophies of traditional Chinese medicine and offers a menu of facial and body treatments.
Guests will have access to flexible event spaces, a swimming pool and a state-of-the-art gym, offering fitness classes such as Pilates and HIIT.
At the time of the project’s announcement, Langham Hospitality Group’s then-CEO Brett Butcher said: “We look forward to bringing The Langham’s luxury hospitality, which celebrates the everyday, to the heart of Seattle’s central business district at this storied location and building great memories for our guests and the community. The Langham, Seattle and its residences will be a powerful testimony to how intelligently-designed mixed-use developments can create exceptional value.”
He was succeeded by Bob van den Oord in 2023.
Langham Hospitality Group already operates a number of properties in the US, including The Langham, Boston, housed in a former Federal Reserve Bank, The Langham, Pasadena in a heritage building built in 1907, and The Langham, Chicago in the Mies van der Rohe building.
